How do i clean shower grout mold?

Hi: How do you get rid of black mold on shower grout in the shower? I never had this problem before but in this house it’s just been a problem since we got here and I want to get rid of it and keep it gone!

  2. The previous answer is pretty good, but I think you will find a higher concentration of bleach works a lot better. I usually use one part bleach (ordinary chlorine bleach, not the "color-safe" types) to two parts water.

    Unfortunately, if the mold is really deep into the grout, you will still see darkened areas even after treatment. A second treatment may be worth trying, but after that, you are stuck with fixing the grout itself. You can buy a grout tool for a few dollars at any hardware store. Use that to scrape out an 1/8 of an inch or so of the grout layer, then spread fresh grout (also from the hardware store) over the top, to give a clean top layer. Fortunately, you don’t have to be too careful about getting all of it into your newly cut groove. Just put it on, and wipe away the excess with a damp sponge, before it dries.

    Once you have cleaned or repaired the grout, you can help it to last longer by putting on a grout sealer, and of course with regular cleaning.

    Good luck. The job is not as hard as it sounds from the above, and you won’t have to do it very often (maybe once in 20 years).
